What you will do

The Employee Relations Senior Manager - Regional Lead is responsible for HR investigations and Staff Relations work and initiatives in Amgen’s Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Africa and Canada (“ELMAC”) region. This role involves close collaboration with regional HR leaders, country HR Business Partners, and various HR Centers of Excellence to educate managers and employees on Amgen's HR policies and investigations processes. Reporting to the Associate Director of Staff Relations, the Employee Relations Senior Manager operates within a specialized HR function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as primary escalation point for business leaders and HR partners on HR investigations in the region.

  • Conduct and/or direct thorough, timely, and impartial internal HR investigations in the ELMAC region involving staff members at all levels of the organization.

  • Identify relevant investigation issues; plan, schedule, and conduct effective interviews; effectively assess witness credibility; and gather and analyze evidence and Amgen policies to make well-reasoned conclusions.

  • Draft well-written investigation plans, summaries, and other investigation records.

  • Provide investigation updates and findings to HR colleagues, business leaders, and other internal partners and stakeholders in a clear, concise manner.

  • As needed, source and use third-party investigators and/or translators to assist in the completion of timely and objective investigations.

  • Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to all issues, and conduct investigations objectively.

  • Maintain metrics of all investigations conducted in the region; identify trends based on the data; and present on metrics and trends to partners and leaders.

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities and best practice for internal HR investigation processes.

  • Serve as a resource for employee relations matters to HR partners in the region.

  • Act as an expert in the region on best practices in the staff relations space, maintaining strong consistency and connectivity with the Global Staff Relations team.

  • Partner with regional/local HR, Compliance, and Learning & Development to create and deliver training on key HR policies and on reporting suspected violations of policies.

  • Support the evolution of employee relations capabilities across the region; act as an expert, trainer, and mentor on effective HR investigations.

Staff Relations is a specialized HR function that partners closely with managers, Compliance, Legal, and collaborators in HR to protect Amgen values, investigate potential violations of HR policies, provide practical advice and direction on coaching staff and managers, and to advise on performance and behaviors management, involuntary terminations, and workplace accommodations.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 6 years of HR Investigations experience

  • Experience working and/or living in Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Africa and/or Canada

  • Fluent in English and in a language spoken in the ELMAC region (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, Arabic...)

  • Employee relations or employment law experience

  • In-depth knowledge of applicable employment laws, regulations, and business practices related to the field of HR

  • Demonstrated ability to learn and fairly apply company policy, investigation procedures, and regulatory guidelines within scope of duties

  • Ability to spot potential HR, Compliance, and Legal issues when presented with complex fact patterns, and to escalate accordingly

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, collaboration, and project management skills

  • Ability to handle multiple cases and projects, and to prioritize effectively – oriented on results

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently

  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills

  • Experience leading difficult conversations and interactions, and conducting non-confrontational interviews

  • Experience working across different countries and cultures, with a commitment to educating oneself on cultural norms and varying laws

  • Outstanding integrity and proven ability to maintain confidential information

  • Experience using interpreters and translation services to complete investigations

  • Enthusiastic teammate with a passion for diversity, inclusion, and belonging, and a commitment to crafting a positive work environment

  • Ability to establish and maintain strong partnerships with other HR and business functions

  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff, including executives

  • Demonstrated customer service/client orientation

  • Experience working in an environment with unions and/or works council

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams and WebEx, Workday, and case management systems (e.g., EthicsPoint)

LOCATION Ability to work flexibly from home with regular office work either from our Cambridge or Uxbridge next generation workspace. Candidates who do not live within a commutable distance have the opportunity to work fully remotely within the United Kingdom.
